Intergrated Health Program
Health, dignity and wellbeing for women, children and communities
Since 2005, NUWOSO has worked with communities in Uganda to improve access to health information, prevention, care and support. Our health work grew from the needs of women and families affected by HIV/AIDS, conflict, poverty and limited access to essential services.
Today, we use an integrated community-based approach that connects HIV and TB prevention and care, malaria prevention, sexual and reproductive health, family planning, primary health care, nutrition, hygiene and wellbeing.
We bring health information closer to people through community dialogues, outreach activities, home visits, radio programmes, schools, referrals and other community platforms. We also integrate health into our wider work on gender, human rights, protection, livelihoods, education and community resilience.
This means a community dialogue on women's rights can also create space for HIV awareness, malaria prevention, SRHR information and healthy living. A livelihood activity can include health and wellbeing messages. A radio discussion can connect families to available services. We meet people where they are and connect health with the realities of everyday life.

Health Advocacy and Accountability
Advocacy is part of every health service we provide. We engage communities, health workers, local leaders, cultural leaders, religious leaders, local governments and national decision-makers to address barriers that affect access to essential health services.
Our advocacy focuses on issues such as HIV prevention and care, malaria prevention, family planning, SRHR, adolescent health, primary health care, health financing, availability of essential supplies and equitable access to services.
We use community dialogues, evidence, stakeholder engagements, policy discussions, radio programmes, campaigns and partnerships to bring community concerns to decision-makers and promote practical solutions.
For example, through our collaboration with the Uganda Family Planning Consortium, we have engaged in advocacy around the unmet need for family planning and the importance of strengthening family planning education. Our advocacy also addresses the social and cultural barriers that can influence acceptance of health services.
We engage religious and cultural leaders as partners because they have strong influence within communities. Rather than treating them as barriers, we create space for dialogue, share accurate information and encourage their participation in promoting healthier communities. This approach is consistent with Uganda's family-planning advocacy framework, which identifies religious and cultural leaders as important partners in building support for family planning.
Community Action for Health
NUWOSO believes that communities are important partners in improving their own health. We work through community structures Women(MegoMakwiny), Male Champions(WegoMakwiny) and Youth(BulluMaluwiny), groups, District and Cultural leaders, schools, radio, health facilities and other trusted platforms. This allows us to take health information beyond health facilities and reach people in their homes and communities. Our community approach combines sensitization, service linkage, prevention, follow-up and advocacy. A community dialogue on human rights can include HIV and malaria prevention. A discussion on women's rights can include SRHR and family planning. A livelihood activity can include health and nutrition messages. A radio programme can provide information while also directing people to available services. This is what makes our health programme integrated. We respond to the different health needs that people face in their daily lives.
